Kingdon City, Missouri-
Two people from the St. Louis area were killed Saturday on Interstate 70 when their westbound sports car breached the median barrier, went airborne over a second vehicle and collided head-on with a third car, according to the Missouri Highway patrol.
The driver of the eastbound car, also from the St. Louis area, suffered serious injuries.
The patrol said Darrell Burgess was driving westbound in a 2003 Jaguar XK8 at 10 a.m. when his car went into the median east of Kingdom City, slipped beneath the cable barrier and went airborne. It just missed one eastbound car and then collided head-on with a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Darion Jordan, 24. He was taken by ambulance to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
The black Jaguar was heading westbound when it entered the median, went underneath the median cable barrier and into the eastbound lanes at mile marker 151 near Kingdom City. The report said it went airborne and flew over a Volkswagen Jetta, and struck a silver Honda Civic head-on.
The driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Darion D. Jordan, was transported to University Hospital by ambulance and was in serious condition as of late Saturday morning. Jordan is an MU senior.
All three people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, according to the Highway Patrol report.
