Three Dead After Head-On Car Crash on Highway 19 in Center Missouri

Ralls County Missouri- A head-on crash that involved a pick up truck and an SUV killed three people on Highway 19 in Ralls County. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening March 16th, 2016.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred when a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Steven Valley, 33, of Belle, Missouri, crossed the center line and struck a 2000 Chevrolet SUV head-on. The 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe was driven by Kerk Friday, 43, of Otho, Iowa. The wreck took place on Highway 19, two miles southwest of Center.

Steven Valley was killed in the crash. Two passengers in Kerk Friday’s vehicle, Kenneth Friday, 68, of Otho, Iowa, and Chon Rushton, 44, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, were also killed in the head-on collision. Kerk Friday was taken by Survival Flight to Columbia, Mo., for treatment of serious injuries.

Ralls County Coroner, Denise Goodwin, pronounced all three men dead around 9:45 p.m. According to the MSHP report, everyone was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The fatalities were Troop B’s seventh, eighth, and ninth of 2016. The Highway Patrol’s crash reconstruction team was called in to assist in the wreck, and Highway 19 was closed for an anticipated six hours overnight Wednesday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash. The Highway Patrol was assisted by the New London Fire Department, Center Fire Department, Ralls County Ambulance District and Ralls County Sheriff’s Department.

The family’s of Kerk and Kenneth Friday and Chon Rushton, may have a claim against the insurance company that insures Steven Valley’s Chevrolet pick up truck.
