Columbia, Missouri-

A car accident just outside of Columbia yesterday, killed a man from Greenview, Illinois.

The multi vehicle crash included two tractor trailers. According to initial reports, Robert Johnston, 60, of Greenview, Il., was eastbound on I-70 when traffic began to slow. Johnston crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of him and was rear-ended by a Kenworth Tractor Trailer, causing the Johnston vehicle to get pushed into the side of a Freightliner Tractor Trailer.

The Johnston vehicle then reportedly ran off the right side of Interstate 70, into the ditch and overturned, ejecting Johnston partially. Johnston’s vehicle rolled over and he was underneath the car when emergency crews arrived. Responders used airbags to lift the vehicle off him.

Johnston was pronounced dead on scene. Johnston’s passenger, Mary Johnston, 60, of Greenview, Il., was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
