Intoxicated Driver Kills Two and Injures Two Others on Highway 54 in Miller County

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, a fatal accident caused the death of two passengers from Eldon and injured two others at approximately 11:48 pm on Friday night on US Highway 54 at Walnut Grove Road in Miller County.

One of the drivers was arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

A 2012 Honda Ridgeline, driven by Carol A. Elwyn, 62, of Lake Ozark, was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of 54 and struck a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Dalton A. Delong, 17, of Eldon, head-on. in the passing lane of U.S. Highway 54, according to the report.

Elwyn was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter. Two counts of felony assault second degree-operated vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury. Elwyn was driving in the wrong direction on a highway with two or more lanes resulting in a crash. She was also charged for one count of failure to register motor vehicle with department of revenue.

Two of the passengers in Dalton Delong’s vehicle, Travis A. Davolt, 38, of Eldon, and Dominic A Delong, 12, of Eldon, were pronounced dead at the scene by Miller County Coroner Rick Callahan. Davolt was listed as not wearing a safety device, while Delong was listed as wearing one.

Dalton Delong suffered serious injuries, was listed as wearing a safety device, and was transported to University Hospital in Columbia by Mercy Ambulance Service.

Elwyn suffered moderate injuries, was listed as wearing a safety device, and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital by Lake Ozark EMS.

This is fatality numbers two and three for Troop F for the month of June and 26 and 27 for the year, MSHP reports.
