When one driver tried to pass another driver on I-35 at Antioch Road in Clay County, he crashed into the right side of the vehicle causing the victim to lose control, crash into a pole, and roll down a steep embankment.
On December 14, 2011 at approximately 5:30 P.M., 19-year-old Romano Mu from Waterloo, Iowa was heading westbound on I-35 at Antioch Road in a 2001 Nissan. At said time and place, Michael Perry, age 58, of Kansas City, Missouri was traveling westbound in a 2005 Ford. Perry had 6 passengers – 5-year-old Michael Hickman, 7-year-old Quasaan Hickman, 57-year-old Glenda Perry, 36-year-old Meshanna Perry, 14-year-old Chardinee Tatum, and 9-year-old Ronni Tatum all from Kansas City, Missouri.
The crash occurred as Mu passed Perry in the right lane of traffic and crashed into his vehicle’s rear driver side causing Perry to lose control. Perry ran off the right side of the roadway, crashed into a utility pole, and rolled down a steep embankment coming to rest on a chain link fence.
Neither driver suffered injuries as a result of this crash. Perry’s passenger, Michael Hickman, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, Missouri. Both Quasaan Hickman and Glenda Perry suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash. Meshanna Perry, Tatum Chardinee, and Ronni Tatum suffered minor injuries and were transported from the scene of the crash by EMS to Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, Missouri.
