In Daviess County, the driver of a vehicle attempts to pass a tractor-trailer in a no-passing zone and swerves off the road to avoid a head-on collision.
On December 5, 2012 at approximately 4:35 p.m., Teklit Weldeabzgi, age 27 from St. Joseph, Missouri was operating a 2000 Lincoln Continental. Tedla Tesfameskel, age 30 from St. Joseph, Missouri was the only passenger in Teklit’s vehicle at the time of the crash.
At that said time, Teklit was traveling in the westbound direction on Missouri Highway 6 and three miles west of Gallatin, Missouri. The crash occurred as Teklit attempted to pass a tractor-trailer in a no-passing zone. He abruptly moved back towards the westbound lane to avoid a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. Teklit over corrected and went off the south side of the roadway and overturned once, coming to a rest on its roof.
Teklit Weldeabzgi and Tedla Tesfameskel both received serious injuries from the crash and were taken by Lifeflight helicopter to the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop H.
