Child Airlifted To Children’s Hospital After Bicycle Crash


In Jefferson County, a 12-year-old girl is seriously injured and airlifted to Children’s Hospital after a head-on collision with her bicycle.

On June 24, 2013 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Joyce Eshelman, age 72 of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2002 Toyota Avalon.

At that said date and time, Jocye Eshelman was traveling in the eastbound direction on West Rock Creek Road near Romaine Creek Road. The crash occurred as 12-year-old Isabella Marco, of High Ridge, was riding her bicycle around a sharp curve traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when Joyce Eshelman’s vehicle collided into her head-on.

Isabella Marco was seriously injured and transported by Air Evacuation Medical Service to Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Joyce Eshelman did not seek medical treatment.

Jefferson County Sheriff, Glen Boyer, says this is one of their problem areas and they are constantly watching it, according to an article reported by KDSK.

The speed limit on West Rock Creek Road is 30 miles per hour and a suggested 20 miles per hour around the corners.

Joyce Eshelman’s 2002 Toyota Avalon received moderate damages from the head-on collision and was towed by K & K Towing.

This bicycle crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
