Columbia Resident, Morrigan Carpenter is Seriously Injured in a Motorcycle Accident


Jefferson City Police Department’s Traffic Unit, regarding a motorcycle accident in the 700 block of Clark Avenue in Jefferson City, Missouri.  A report stated two people were involved in a serious motorcycle crash and were lying in the street.

The motorcycle’s driver, Shawn Cochran, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Morrigan Carpenter, 31, of Columbia, was found conscious but sustained serious injuries. Morrigan Carpenter was transported to the University Hospital in Columbia, then was reported as being flown to Barnes Hospital, in St. Louis.

Reports are coming in that the initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Clark Avenue, but failed to stay in the correct lane. The motorcycle crossed the center of the roadway and began sliding on its right side before it struck a curb, a utility pole, a road sign, and a dirt embankment.

The fatal motorcycle crash ejected both Cochran and Carpenter. It was also reported that both were wearing helmets however, Cochran’s helmet was not DOT approved.
