Driver Attempts to Avoid Collision with Deer

In Douglas County, two teenagers are injured after the driver attempts to avoid collision with a deer and drove off the road.

On January 15, 2013 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Robert Vernon, age 19 from Mountain Grove, Missouri was operating a 2003 Dodge Durango. Ashley Elliott, age 17 from Cabool, Missouri was the only passenger in the vehicle with Robert at the time of the collision.

At that said date and time, Robert Vernon was traveling in the northbound direction on Missouri Highway 95 and .5 mile north of Gentryville. The crash occurred as Robert saw that a deer was in the roadway and he attempted to swerve to avoid collision with the deer. He drove off the left side of the road, returned back onto the roadway, traveled off the right side of the road, and then collided with a tree and fence.

Ashley Elliott was transported by EMS helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri was serious injuries. Robert Vernon received moderate injuries and was transported by Mountain Grove EMS to Mercy Hospital. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, neither Robert nor Ashley was wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Robert’s 2003 Dodge Durango received total damages and was towed by Ed’s Towing of Mountain Grove.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop G.
