n July 26, 2012 at approximately 4:00 A.M., 56-year-old Homer Steinbeck was heading east on US 50 .7 miles east of Route P in Gasconade County while operating a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. At said time and place, Selvin Garth, age 20, from Linn, Missouri was heading west in a 1997 Saturn SC1.
The crash occurred when Garth crossed the center line and crashed into Steinbeck nearly head-on. Steinbeck traveled off the south side of the roadway, and Garth came to rest in the middle of the roadway.
Steinbeck was killed and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Gasconade County Sheriff R. Esphorst.He was transported from the scene of the crash to Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri. Garth suffered serious injuries and was flown from the scene of the crash by Arch Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Steinbeck’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Triple L Towing of Owensville, Missouri. Garth’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Triple L Towing of Owensville, Missouri.
This crash was investigated by Sergeant D. D. Spurgeon and assisted by Gasconade County Sheriff’s Department. This was Troop F’s 3rd fatality for the month of July and the 38th fatality for the year 2012.
