Jefferson City, Missouri— The Missouri State Highway Patrol has now confirmed the fatality from the crash near Wardsville, Missouri this morning, was that of a three year old child.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol had reported one person died after a crash on Route M in Cole County Monday morning, and several others were injured.
The cross-over fatality accident occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Monday January 9th, 2017. According to Sergeant Scott White it occurred on Route M near the Wardsville Lions Club.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit was still working the crash scene at 8:30 am Monday, completing a MSHP crash reconstruction.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper on scene said two vehicles were involved in the crash and that the crash happened when a Chevy Tahoe went off the right side of the road, then over-corrected, crossed the center of the roadway and struck another vehicle, another SUV.
White confirmed at least one fatality, but said the name of the crash victim is not being released while authorities work to notify next of kin. Troopers later confirmed the victim was a three year old.
