Fatal Crash Due to Driver’s Failure to Stop

In Stone County, two are fatally injured after the driver of the vehicle failed to complete a stop at a stop sign and was hit by another vehicle.

On June 14, 2013 at approximately 4:05 p.m., Richard Blubaugh, age 66 of McPherson, Kansas was operating a 1998 Toyota Camry along with passenger Dorothy Blubaugh, age 60. Michael Dunn, age 43 of Battlefield, Missouri was operating a 2012 Dodge pickup along with passengers; Matthew Dunn, age 14, and Jacob Dunn, age 9.

At that said date and time, Richard Blubaugh was traveling in the eastbound direction as Michael Dunn was traveling in the southbound direction on Highway 13 at West Missouri 248 junction. The crash occurred when Richard Blubaugh failed to stop at a stop sign and approached his vehicle into oncoming traffic. Michael Dunn’s vehicle collided with Richard’s.

Richard and Dorothy Blubaugh were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Stone County Deputy coroner, John Cunningham, and then transported to the Stone County Coroner’s Office. Jacob Dunn received moderate injuries and was air lifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Michael Dunn was moderately injured and Matthew Dunn received minor injuries from the collision and was transported by ambulance to Cox South Hospital.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all of the participants involved in this fatality crash were wearing their seat belts.

Richard Blubaugh’s 1998 Toyota Camry received total damages from the crash and was towed by Chris’s Towing of McPherson, Kansas. Michael Dunn’s 2012 Dodge received total damages and was towed by Larry’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D, Southern Stone County Fire Department, Stone County Sheriff’s Department, and Reeds Spring Police Department. This is Troop D’s 47th fatality for 2013.
