Fatal Crash on I-35


In Clay County, a man is killed and another is seriously injured after the at-fault vehicle swerved into their direction, forcing them off the roadway.

On January 17, 2014 at approximately 6:49 a.m., Pamela Wilson, age 45 of Gallatin, Missouri was operating a 2008 Mercury. Bradley Abeln, age 31 of Polo, Missouri was operating a 1987 Ford Bronco along with Joshua Thomas, age 32 of Hamilton, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Pamela Wilson and Bradley Abeln were both traveling in the southbound direction on I-35 at 19.8 mile marker. The crash occurred as Pamela was in the left lane, swerved into the right lane and collided with Bradley’s vehicle. Bradley’s vehicle then began skidding, hit the guardrail and overturned. Both Bradley and Joshua were ejected from the vehicle.

Bradley Abeln and Joshua Thomas were transported by Liberty EMS to Liberty Hospital with serious injuries. Bradley Abeln was in critical condition and was later pronounced dead by Dr. Charles Beggs. Pamela Wilson was uninjured and did not seek medical attention.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, neither Bradley nor Joshua was wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.

Pamela’s 2008 Mercury received moderate damages and Bradley’s 1987 Ford Bronco received total damages. Both vehicles were towed by Wilde Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with assistance of Troop A and the Liberty Police Department. This is Troop A’s 3rd fatality crash and 3rd fatality for 2014.
