Fatal Driver Crosses into Oncoming Traffic

In Cass County, the driver of fatality crash crosses into oncoming traffic and collides with another vehicle on the driver’s side.

On March 6, 2012 at approximately 3:10 p.m., Flora Bruns, age 88 and a resident of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was operating a 2005 Mercury and traveling in the southbound direction of US 291. Kevin Sminglewki, age 40 and of Lee Summit, Missouri was operating a 2007 Mitsubishi and traveling in the northbound direction.

At that side time and place, Flora was traveling south on US 291 when she crossed into oncoming traffic and collided into Kevin’s driver side. Kevin’s vehicle overturned and came to a rest on its top.

Flora Bruns was transported by South Metro EMS to Research Hospital and later was pronounced fatal. Kevin was uninjured and did not seek medical attention, according to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Flora’s 2005 Mercury and Kevin’s 2007 Mitsubishi received total damages and were both towed by J’s Southland Tow.

This auto-crash is still undergoing investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and was assisted by the Cass County Deputies, Raymore Police, and Lake Winnebago Police.
