Fatal Head-on Collision


In Greene County, an Aldridge woman is fatally injured after a head-on collision on Missouri 123.

On June 29, 2013 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Gary Parkison, age 22 of Walnut Grove, Missouri was operating a 2010 Ford Fusion along with passengers; Betty Vest, age 82 of Aldridge, Missouri, and Judith Parkison, age 58 of Walnut Grove, Missouri. Jesse Sconce, age 20 of Walnut Grove, Missouri was operating a 1994 Ford Taurus along with passengers; Whitney Sconce, age 27 of Bolivar, Missouri and Johny Sconce, age 2 of Walnut Grove, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Gary Parkison was traveling in the southbound direction as Jesse Sconce was traveling in the northbound direction on Missouri 123 and four miles south of Walnut Grove. The head-on collision occurred as Jesse Sconce crossed the center line and crashed into Gary Parkison’s vehicle.

Betty Vest received serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in critical condition, later she was pronounced dead at the hospital by Dr. Case. Gary Parkison, Judith Parkison, Whitney Sconce, and Johny Sconce received moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Jesse Sconce did not seek medical attention.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all participants involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts at the time of the head-on collision.

Gary Parkison’s 2010 Ford Fusion and Jesse Sconce’s 1994 Ford Taurus both received total damages from the head-on collision and were towed by EZ Towing of Willard, Missouri.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 54th fatality of 2013.
