Fatal One-car Crash


In Newton County, three people inside a vehicle are seriously injured and one other is killed after a crash that occurred on the icy and slick roadway.

On March 1, 2014 at approximately 11:00 p.m., Daniel Craig, age 32 of Goodman, Missouri was operating a 2003 Ford Explorer along with passengers Abigail Lester, age 14 of Neosho, Missouri, Jennifer Lester, age 36 of Neosho, Missouri, and Cerea Reed, age 13 of Neosho, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Daniel Craig was traveling in the northbound direction on I-49 and one-tenth of a mile north of Neosho, Missouri. The crash occurred as Daniel lost control of his vehicle on the slick and icy roadway and began sliding. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned.

Cerea Reed was transported to Freeman West Hsopital in Joplin, Missouri in critical condition. Later, Cerea was pronounced dead by Dr. Baker as a result of her injuries from the crash. Daniel Craig, Abigail and Jennifer Lester were all transported to Freeman West Hospital with serious injuries.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, none of the participants involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts at the time.

Daniel Craig’s 2003 Ford Explorer received total damages and was towed by Affordable Towing of Neosho, Missouri.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. Per Missouri State Law, Daniel Craig was tested for alcohol.
