Fatal Rear-end Collision


In Jefferson County, a Dittmer man is pronounced dead after a rear-end collision involving a dump truck and a motorcycle.

On March 10, 2014 at approximately 5:39 a.m., Michael Ross, age 44 of Rolla, Missouri was operating a 1998 Freightliner. Keith Christopher, age 27 of Dittmer, Missouri was operating a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle.

At that said date and time, both vehicles were traveling in the southbound direction on Missouri Route B and .10 of a mile north of Simpson Hill Road. The crash occurred as Michael slowed his vehicle on the roadway when Keith collided into the dump truck with his motorcycle.

Witnesses told investigators that a dump truck might have been involved as it was last seen going southbound on Highway B a few minutes earlier. The driver of the dump truck continued driving and left the scene of the crash but was later stopped by police. No arrests have been reported.

Keith Christopher was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Big River ambulance personnel and then transported to St. Louis County Morgue by the Schaefer Funeral Home. Michael Ross was uninjured and did not seek medical attention.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Keith Christopher was wearing proper safety equipment while operating his motorcycle and at the time of the collision.

Keith’s 2006 Yamaha motorcycle received total damages and was towed by Northwest Towing. Michael Ross’ 1998 Freightliner did not receive any damages in the rear-end collision and was driven from the scene of the crash.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C and Crash Team 2.
