Fatality Accident in Buchanan County

In Buchanan County, five participants of an automobile crash receive minor injuries and one is pronounced fatal.

On August 8, 2012 at approximately 8:45 a.m., Jasper Jordan, age 59 and of Omaha, Nebraska was operating a 2007 Nissan Titan and traveling in the southbound direction. Jasper had three other passengers in the vehicle along with him, Louise Edington (77), Mollie McGlee (76), and Kassandra Jordan (19) all from Omaha, Nebraska. Clifton Sorrells, age 53 and from Trenton, Missouri was operating a 2004 Kia Optima and traveling in the southbound direction. Kellie Holtman, age 41 and from St. Joseph, Missouri was Clifton’s only passenger in the vehicle during the time of the crash.

At that said time and place, Jasper and Clifton were both traveling southbound on I-29. Clifton lost control of her vehicle as she attempted to pass Jasper’s vehicle by traveling into the right lane. The front left of Clinton’s vehicle collided with the front right of Jasper’s vehicle, which caused both vehicles off the east side of the roadway and striking a cable barrier. Jasper’s vehicle came to a final rest on its wheels as Clifton’s was on its side.

Louise Edington was transported by Northland Regional ambulance district to Heartland Regional Medical Center and later pronounced fatal by Buchanan County coroner, David Cathcart. Jasper Jordan, Mollie McGee, and Kassandra Jordan all received minor injuries from the crash and were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center by Northland Regional ambulance district. Kellie Holtman received minor injuries and was also taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center by Heartland ambulance.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the only participant in the crash to be found wearing a seatbelt was Kellie Holtman as all others were not wearing their seatbelts.

Jasper’s 2007 Nissan Titan received total damages and Clifton’s 2004 Kia Optima received minor damages from the crash and both were towed by All Star Towing.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop H, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department, and MoDot. This is the 20th fatality for troop H for 2012.
