Fatality Crash in Cooper County


In Cooper County, the driver of a vehicle is killed after the at-fault vehicle crashed into his rear-end, forcing his vehicle off the roadway.

On February 2, 2014 at approximately 5:16 a.m., Kelly Klein, age 51 of Wooldridge, Missouri was operating a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM along with Keely James, age 51 of Wooldridge, Missouri. Joseph Baucom, age 29 of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Van.

At that said date and time, both vehicles were traveling in the westbound direction on I-70 and ten miles east of Boonville. The crash occurred as Joseph’s vehicle collided with the rear-end of Kelly’s vehicle, forcing Kelly off the right side of the roadway and to overturn several times.

Kelly Klein was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Cooper County coroner, James Hurt, and then transported to Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove, Missouri. Keely James and Joseph Baucom received moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to Cooper Memorial Hospital.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all the participants involved were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.

Kelly Klein’s 2001 Pontiac Grand AM received total damages and Joseph’s 2002 Chevrolet Van received extensive damages. Both vehicles were towed by Nash’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop F. This is Troop F’s 2nd fatality for the month of February and 6th for 2014.
