Father Kills Three-year Old Son Drunk Driving

In Christian County, a three year old son is killed after the father was driving drunk and caused a three-vehicle crash on Missouri Route 14.

On November 13, 2012 at approximately 4:40 p.m., John Clark, age 33 from Sparta, Missouri was operating a 2007 Toyota. Along in the vehicle with John Clark was Kohen Clark, age 3, and Katelynn Melton, age 22. Kara Whitworth, age 32 from Springfield, Missouri was operating a 2005 Ford Explorer. Jne Baker, age 31 from Clever, Missouri was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. Jne’s passengers were Brayden, age 4, and newborn Rylee Baker.

At that said time and place, John Clark was traveling in the eastbound direction as Kara Whitworth and Jne Baker were traveling in the westbound direction on Missouri Route 14 and one mile east of Nixa, Missouri. The crash occurred as John Clark lost control of his vehicle and slid into the path of Kara Whitworth’s vehicle. Jne Baker’s vehicle collided with Kara Whitworth’s vehicle in the rear. The Christian County Prosecutor has not filed any charges, but the Missouri State Highway Patrol report that John Clark was driving drunk when his son was killed.

Kohen Clark was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Michael Ensign and taken to the Springfield Mortuary. John Clark received moderate injuries and Katelynn Melton received serious injuries. Jne Baker was moderately injured from the collision. Both children, Rylee and Brayden, received minor injuries. Everyone involved in this crash was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kara Whitworth was uninjured.

John Clark’s 2007 received total damages and was towed by Blue Monkey Towing of Sparta, Missouri. Kara Whitworth’s 2005 Ford Explorer received total damages and was towed by Out of Sight Towing of Nixa, Missouri. Jne Baker’s 2004 Chevrolet Impala received total damages and was towed by Bilyeu’s Towing of Ozark.

John Clark was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2006. On October 8, 2006, the Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy, Richard Ramage, charged John Clark for driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the correct side of the roadway, failure to register a motor vehicle, and failure to maintain insurance.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop D. This is troop D’s 83rd fatality for 2012.
