Five Teenagers Involved in Fatal Crash


In Franklin County, three teenagers are fatally injured and two others are seriously injured in a crash that involved a collision with a tree.

On June 6, 2013 at approximately 2:11 a.m., James Curran, age 19 of Union, Missouri was operating a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. The passengers inside James’ vehicle were Issac Clark (19), Derek King (19), Lucas Schulze (19), and Cole Weddle (18). All of the participants involved in this crash are residents of Union, Missouri.

At that said date and time, James Curran was traveling in the southbound direction on Porterford Road at Cardinal Lane. The fatality crash occurred as James’ vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, striking a culvert and colliding with a tree.

James Curran and Derek King were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and were transported to St. Louis County Morgue by medical examiner, Russell Rost. Cole Weddle was taken by Union ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur and was in critical condition. Cole Weddle was later pronounced dead by Dr. Marquez. Lucas Schulze and Issac Clark received serious injuries from the collision and were also transported by Union ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, none of the passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision and it is unknown if the driver, James Curran, was wearing his seat belt or not.

James Curran’s 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix received total damages from the collision and was towed by Pro Tow Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
