Head-on Collision Kills Both Drivers


In Jefferson County, the two drivers involved in a head-on collision are pronounced dead.

On March 25, 2014 at approximately 12:23 p.m., Mary Burke, age 82 of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2000 Toyota Camry. James Sybert, age 25 of De Soto, Missouri was operating a 1994 GMC Sonoma.

At that said date and time, Mary was traveling in the northbound direction while James was traveling in the southbound direction on Missouri Highway 21 and just north of Old Highway 21 – Shady Valley Interchange. The crash occurred as Mary was traveling in the northbound direction in the southbound lanes of Missouri Highway 21 and James was traveling southbound in the southbound lanes. Both vehicles collided head-on and then traveled off the left side of the roadway. Then Mary’s vehicle caught on fire.

Mary Burke was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by ambulance personnel and then transported to St. Louis County Morgue by Schaeffer Mortuary. James Sybert received serious injuries and was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital by Rock Township ambulance in critical condition. Later, James Sybert was pronounced dead by Dr. Kainz at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Both vehicles received total damages from the head-on collision and were towed by Miner’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
