When two drivers served to the outside of their lane in order to avoid hitting each other, they swerved back to the center line and a head-on crash resulted in Pemiscot County of Missouri. The two drivers suffered moderate to serious injuries.
On October 10, 2011 at approximately 12:30pm, 53-year-old, Cathy Goodale, from Caruthersville, Missouri was heading southbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Highway T 1/2 of a mile south of Portageville. At the same time and place, 47-year-old, James Stone, from Hayti, Missouri was operating a 2001 Ford Escape and heading northbound on Highway T.
The crash occurred when Stone crossed into Goodale’s lane. Goodale swerved to the left to avoid striking Stone while Stone swerved to the right to avoid crashing into Goodale. Both vehicles swerved back towards the center line, and a head-on crash resulted. Neither of the drivers had passengers at this time. Goodale was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, but Stone was.
The at-fault driver, Stone, suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Missouri by ambulance. Goodale suffered serious injuries and was life-flighted from the scene of the crash to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri by Air Evac.
Goodale’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Johnson’s 66 Station & Wrecker Service of Portageville, Missouri. Goodale was insured by Cornerstone National Insurance. Stone’s vehicle also received total damage and was towed by Johnson’s 66 Station &Wrecker Service of Portageville, Missouri. Stone was insured by Progressive Insurance.
