Head- on Collision Results in One Fatality and Seven Others Seriously Injured

In Osage County, the fatality of the at-fault driver leaves seven others in critical and serious conditions.

On September 17, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m., 32 year old driver, Kraig Walker from Eugene, Missouri was operating a 2004 Pontiac and traveling in the southbound direction on U.S. 63 at Route T. Walker had four other occupants with him; Matthew Evens, age 19 and from Holts Summit, Frederick Moore, age 23 and from Jefferson City, Fierce Taylor, age 21 and from Jefferson City, and finally, Christopher Welch, age 28 and also from Jefferson City, Missouri.

The at-fault driver, 42 year old Loretta Thompson from Fulton, Missouri was operating a 2004 Chevrolet and traveling in the northbound direction on U.S. 63 on Route T. Thompson had two other occupants in the vehicle with her; Billy Buccholtz, age 57 and from Steedman, Missouri and 9 year old Mariah Buccholtz from Mokane, Missouri.

At that said time and place, the crash occurred as Loretta Thompson crossed the center line and struck Kraig Walker’s vehicle head-on. Walker’s vehicle came to rest upon impact, and Thompson’s vehicle rotated back across the center line and off the roadway. Loretta Thompson then struck a road ditch and Billy Buccholtz was ejected from the vehicle.

The fatality of Loretta Thompson was pronounced at 1600 by Osage County Coroner, Lois Jaegers.

Kraig Walker sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. The other occupants of his car; Matthew, Frederick, Fierce, and Christopher received moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to Capital Region Hospital for medical treatment. The occupants in Thompson’s vehicle; Mariah and Billy Buccholtz sustained very serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri due to their critical conditions. Loretta Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Morton’s Funeral Home in Linn, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol states that all occupants of this auto-crash were either to be found not wearing their safety devices or to be unknown.

Both the 2004 Pontiac and the 2004 Chevrolet received total damages and were towed by Beck Motors in Freeburg, Missouri.

This auto-crash was and still is under investigation of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and by Trooper #226 B. Baker, Trooper #898 C. Wilt, Trooper #312 K. Green. Also the investigation of this crash was assisted by Sergeant #904 D. Spurgeon of Troop F. This Fatality for Troop F is the 43th of 2011.
