Head-on Collision Wrongfully Kills Sarcoxie Man

In Lawrence County, a Sarcoxie man is wrongfully killed when involved in a head-on collision.

On December 21, 2012 at approximately 4:40 a.m., Matthew Gann, age 32 from Mount Vernon, Missouri was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Brandy Acheson, age 38 from Sarcoxie, Missouri was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Impala.

At that said time and place, Matthew Gann was traveling in the northbound direction as Brandy Acheson was traveling in the southbound direction on Missouri Highway 39 and 4 miles south of Mount Vernon. The collision occurred as Matthew Gann crossed the center line and collided with Brandy’s vehicle in the southbound lane head-on.

Brandy Acheson was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County coroner, Scott Lakin, and was then taken to Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City. Matthew Gann received serious injuries from the collision and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Under state law the surviving driver was tested for alcohol.

Matthew Gann’s 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and Brandy Acheson’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala received total damages and were towed by Biellier’s Towing in Mount Vernon.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 92nd fatality for 2012.
