On August 8, 2011 at approximately 5:10 pm, 61 year old Shalah McGinnis from Concordia, MO, was operating a 2003 Chrysler traveling southbound on Route O, north of Watershed Road. McGinnis did not have any passengers. At that same time and location, Phillip Randle of Lexington, MO, age 18, was operating a 2005 Ford, traveling Northbound on Route O. Randle had one passenger: Phyllis Slaughter, age 57 Lexington, Missouri.
The crash occurred when McGinnis’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Randle’s vehicle in a head-on crash. Both vehicles travelled off the east side of the roadway. Randle’s vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side. The crash caused serious injuries for Phillip Randle and the deaths of his passenger, Phyllis Slaughter and the at-fault driver, Shalah McGinnis. In both fatalities, the next of kin was notified.
McGinnis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner, Dr. Singh. She was transported from the scene of the crash to the Walker Nadler Funeral Home in Lexington. Slaughter was transported by the Lexington EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital and was there pronounced dead by the Lafayette County Coroner, Dr. Singh.
Phillip Randle was transported by the Lexington EMS to Centerpoint Hospital where he suffered from serious injuries.
All individuals involved were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicles were totaled and were towed by Wilkinson’s Tow of Odessa, Missouri.
