In Franklin County, a teenager was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene and caused her car to collide with a bluff and catch on fire.

On September 14, 2011 at approximately 8:40 p.m., 18 year old Shanae Haynes of Villa Ridge, Missouri was operating a 2002 Ford Focus on Interstate 44 at the 252.8 mile marker traveling in the eastbound direction. An unknown driver also was traveling on I-44 in the eastbound direction.

At that said time and place, the unknown driver struck the left rear of Shanae’s car and continued on without stopping. The impact from the unknown driver forced her off the right side of the highway, and then smashed into a rock bluff, overturned, and then slid back onto the interstate. Shanae Hayne’s car burst into flames immediately after the collision.

The unknown driver left the scene of the crash.

Shanae Haynes sustained very critical and serious injuries from the result of this crash. She was taken by air evacuation to the St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. She received medical attention for the suffering of her serious injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the Haynes was in fact wearing her seatbelt.

The 2002 Ford Focus received total damages due from this crash and was towed by Hydrich Brothers Towing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study found that driver error was the primary cause of 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
