Ice Covered Roads Increases Fatalities

In Cedar County, a woman of El Dorado Springs is killed after her vehicle lost control on the icy road, which caused her to cross over the center line and collide with another vehicle.

On February 2, 2013 at approximately 7:20 a.m., Mona Purtle, age 62 from El Dorado Springs, Missouri was operating a 2005 Ford Taurus. Lyle Foley, age 38 from Humansville, Missouri was operating a 2006 International Truck.

At that said date and time, Mona Purtle was traveling in the westbound direction as Lyle Foley was in the eastbound direction on Highway 32 and 2 miles west of Stockton. The crash occurred as Mona was driving west when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy road and crossed over the center line. The driver’s side of Mona’s vehicle collided with the front of Lyle’s vehicle broadside.

Mona Purtle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Cedar County coroner and then transported to Sheldon Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs. Lyle Foley was transported to Cedar Medical Hospital in Bolivar with minor injuries.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lyle Foley was the only occupant found wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Mona Purtle’s 2005 Ford Taurus received total damages and Lyle Foley’s 2006 International Truck received minor damages. Both vehicles were towed by Mike’s Towing of Stockton.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 7th fatality for 2013.
