Illinois Man in Serious Condition after Motorcycle Wreck


In Perry County, an Illinois resident is seriously injured after being tossed from his motorcycle on Interstate 55.

On September 16, 2012 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Kenneth Smoot, age 54 and from Franklin, Illinois was operating a 2006 Honda Goldwing. Kenneth was traveling in the southbound direction on Interstate 55 at the 119.6 mile marker.

At that said time and place, Kenneth Smoot was heading in the southbound direction on Interstate 55, near the Perry-Cape Girardeau County line. The crash occurred as his motorcycle began to skid on the wet pavement and overturned off the left side of the roadway, striking the median, and then ejecting himself off his motorcycle onto the pavement.

Kenneth Smoot received serious injuries and was in critical condition after his motorcycle crash. Kenneth was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau by Perry County ambulance. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kenneth was wearing a helmet during the time of the crash.

Kenneth Smoot’s 2006 Honda Goldwing received extensive damages due to the crash and was towed by Winkler’s Tow Service.

This motorcycle crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C by trooper J. R. Diffee.
