Infant Killed in Head-on Collision Crash

In Washington County, the driver of one vehicle lost control on the wet roadway and caused a head-on collision that killed an infant.

On December 9, 2012 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Britney LaChance, age 22 from Potosi, Missouri was operating a 2005 Kia Sorento. Britney’s only passenger in the vehicle was infant, Sebastian Garvin. Michael Stringer, age 47 from Mineral Point, Missouri was operating a 2005 Dodge Ram. Angela (44), Amanda (17), Lillie (14), and Jimmie Stringer (5) were passengers in the vehicle with Michael at the time of the crash.

At that said time, Britney LaChance was traveling in the northbound direction on Highway 21 at Route CC, while Michael Stringer was in the southbound direction. The collision occurred as Britney LaChance lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway and slid into the path of Michael Stringer’s vehicle. The front of Michael’s vehicle collided with the right side of Britney’s vehicle.

Sebastian Garvin was pronounced dead by coroner, Brian DeClue, and then transported to Washington County Memorial Hospital by the Washington County medical examiner. Britney LaChance received serious injuries from the collision and was taken to Jefferson Regional by the Washington County ambulance. Michael Stringer was transported by ambulance to the Washington County Hospital with serious injuries. Angela Stinger received moderate injuries and was taken to the Washington County Hospital along with her three children. Amanda, Lillie, and Jimmie Stringer all received minor injuries from the collision. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all passengers except Michael Stringer were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.

Britney LaChance’s 2005 Kia Sorento received total damages and Michael Stringer’s 2005 Dodge Ram received extensive damages from the crash. Both vehicles were towed by Elliot Motors.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
