Kansas City Pedestrian Killed on I-35


In Clay County, a pedestrian is killed on Interstate 35 after his vehicle broke down and he attempted to cross the roadway.

On November 3, 2012 at approximately at 7:27 p.m., David Ellis, age 41 from Kansas City, Missouri was experiencing vehicle issues 3/4 of a mile south of Highway 152. Linda McCoy, age 45 from Kansas City, Missouri was operating a 2009 Ford Fusion traveling in the northbound direction on Interstate 35.

At that said time and place, the vehicle of David Ellis broke down about 3/4 of a mile south of Highway 152. He then walked 100 yards north of his vehicle and attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 when the vehicle of Linda McCoy collided into him in the left lane.

David Ellis was taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office and pronounced dead by medical examiner, Ryan Cashatt. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Linda McCoy was uninjured.

Linda McCoy’s 2009 Ford Fusion received moderate damages from the collision and was towed by S & S Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop A and the Liberty Police Department. This is troop A’s 56th fatality for 2012.
