Lawson Teenagers Seriously Injured in Crash

In Ray County, three teenagers are seriously injured after the driver over corrected and lost control of his vehicle causing it to overturn.

On February 9, 2013 at approximately 11:40 p.m., Benton Maddux, 18 from Lawson, Missouri was operating a 2004 Dodge truck. Drake Mortimer, age 17, and Kyle Sellers, age 16, were the only two passengers in Benton’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

At that said date and time, Benton Maddux was traveling in the westbound direction on Route U and .2 mile east of Route M. The crash occurred as Benton traveled off the right side of the roadway and then over corrected. He returned back onto the road and then traveled off the left side of the road, collided with an embankment, and overturned onto the passenger side.

Kyle Sellers was transported by Ray County ambulance to Liberty Hospital with serious injuries. Benton Maddux and Drake Mortimer received moderate injuries and were transported by Ray County ambulance to Liberty Hospital.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, it is unknown if any of the passengers were wearing their seat belt during the time of the crash.

Benton Maddux’s 2004 Dodge truck received total damages and was towed by Shoemaker’s Tow.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A, the Ray County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ray County EMS.
