Jefferson County crash ends in serious injury for Missouri woman after she is struck from behind while attempting to exit the roadway.

On October 27, 2011 at approximately 6:47 p.m., 28 year old Megan Markley of Crystal City, Missouri was operating a 2001 Honda CRV traveling southbound on I-55, about 50 feet south of Imperial Main. At that said time and place, 43 year old Thomas Dace was operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota also traveling southbound on I-55 directly behind Markley.

Megan Markley then experienced mechanical difficulties and attempted to pull to the shoulder from I-55. Dace failed to properly slow his vehicle to avoid Markley and struck the rear of her vehicle.

Megan Markely was transported from the scene of the crash to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by Rock Township with serious injuries. The at-fault driver, Thomas Dace, was also transported from the scene of the crash to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by Rock Township with minor injuries.

Both vehicles sustained total damage in the crash and were towed from the scene by Timco Towing. Both drivers were wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash. Markely did possess insurance coverage for her vehicle at the time of the crash; however, it is unknown if the at-fault driver possessed insurance coverage.

This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper M. Albright of Troop C.
