Waynesville, Missouri woman and her infant child are rushed to the hospital with injuries after being struck by another vehicle.
On October 16, 2011 at approximately 3:15 p.m., 21 year old Shaina Updike of Waynesville, Missouri was operating a 2009 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on I-44 at the 158 mile marker. Updike had one passenger, Josiah Updike, her infant son.
At that said time and place, 18 year old Grace Halverson of Florissant, Missouri was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, also traveling westbound on I-44. Halverson then changed lanes and struck the Updike vehicle. Both vehicles ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road, struck a rock embankment, and then ran off the right side of the road again coming to a rest.
Driver Shaina Updike was transported from the scene of the crash to Fort Wood Hospital with moderate injuries. Updike’s infant son was also transported to Fort Wood Hosptial for treatment of minor injuries he sustained in the crash. The at-fault driver, Grace Halverson, was transported from the scene of the crash to Phelps County Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The Updikes were both wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash; however, the at-fault driver was not.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Aimee Fulkerson of Troop I and was assisted by Sgt. Cody Fulkerson, Cve. Reid and the St. Robert Police Department.
