On September 5, 2011 at approximately 10:10 a.m., 49 year old Robert Eckenfels of St. Genevieve, Missouri was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, traveling southbound on Route D at the intersection of Route C. Eckenfels’ motorcycle was occupied by himself and passenger, 51 year old Susan Eckensfels also of St. Genevieve, Missouri.
At that said time and place, 28 year old Travis Steffans of Perryville, Missouri was traveling on Route C approaching the intersection of Route D. Steffans then attempted to make a left turn onto Route D from Route C and failed to yield to the Eckenfels motorcycle. Eckenfels attempted to avoid Steffans but was unable to do so and struck the right side of Steffans’ vehicle.
Motorcycle driver, Robert Eckenfels, was transported from the scene of the crash by Perry County Ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau with moderate injuries. Motorcycle passenger, Susan Eckenfels, was also transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau by Perry County Ambulance with minor injuries. No injury information was listed for the at-fault driver, Steffans.
The Eckenfels motorcycle received total damage in the crash and was towed from the scene by Stuppy’s Towing. The at-fault vehicle also received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Winkler’s Towing.
The motorcyclists were both wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash; however, the at-fault driver, Travis Steffans, was not. Both drivers possessed insurance coverage on their vehicles at the time of the crash.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper J. Thomas of Troop C.
