On June 8, 2012 at approximately 1:55 p.m., 42 year old Robert McKenzie of Lone Jack, Missouri was operating a 2011 Ford F150 traveling southbound on Highway 291 at 195th street. McKenzie was not transporting any passengers.
At that said time and place, 18 year old Trevor Cunningham of Peculiar, Missouri was operating a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier traveling northbound on Highway 291. Cunningham’s vehicle was occupied by himself and one passenger: 18 year old Andrew Gibson of Peculiar, Missouri.
McKenzie attempted to make a left turn and was struck by Cunningham who failed to yield.
Driver Robert McKenzie was transported by EMS to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash. Passenger Andrew Gibson sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported by EMS to Belton Research. The at-fault driver, Trevor Cunningham, was uninjured in the crash. All parties involved were wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash.
McKenzie’s vehicle received moderate damage in the crash and was towed from the scene by GT Tow out of Raymore. The at-fault vehicle also received moderate damage but was driven from the scene of the crash. The at-fault driver, Cunningham, did not possess insurance coverage for his vehicle at the time of the crash.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper B.R. Dehaan of Troop A and was assisted by Trooper J.R. Hastings and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
