Two Missouri residents were seriously injured in a Cass County crash after their vehicles traveled off of the roadway.
On August 8, 2011 at approximately 11:45 a.m., 45 year old Bryce Elkins of Greenwood, Missouri, was operating a 2001 Ford traveling southbound on Highway BB in Pleasant Hill near the meeting of County Road 175. Elkin’s vehicle was occupied by himself and one passenger, 81 year old Bob Elkins, also of Greenwood. At that said time and place, 30 year old Jacob Borgstadt of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was operating a 2004 Dodge Caravan traveling westbound on County Road 175. Borgstadt’s vehicle was occupied by himself and 29 year old passenger, Shellie Turley of Pleasant Hill.
The crash occurred when Borgstadt attempted to turn onto Highway BB and failed to yield to the Elkins vehicle. Borgstadt then struck Elkin, causing the Elkin vehicle to overturn. Both vehicles traveled off the road way as result of the crash.
Bryce Elkins, 45 year old driver, was transported to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri for treatment of minor injuries. Bob Elkins, 81 year old passenger, was transported to Centerpoint Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger to the at-fault driver, Shellie Turley, was taken to Lees Summit Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The at-fault driver, Borgstadt, was also taken to Lees Summit Medical Center but sustained only minor injuries in the crash. Both individuals who suffered serious injuries were not wearing their safety devices.
The Elkins vehicle sustained extensive damage in the crash and was towed from the scene to Ron’s Auto and Truck Towing in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The at-fault vehicle also received extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash to Stever’s Tow in Pleasant Hill. The at-fault driver, Borgstadt, did not possess automotive insurance coverage at the time of the crash.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper G. Wright of Troop A.
