Motorcycle Crash Involves Serious Injuries


In Greene County, two men are seriously injured after a crash that caused them to be ejected from their motorcycles.

On April 19, 2014 at approximately 9:35 p.m., John Thaemlitz, age 43 of Willard, Missouri was operating a 2000 Confederate motorcycle. Joshua Ummel, age 39 of Ash Grove, Missouri was operating a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

At that said date and time, both motorcycles were traveling in the southbound direction on Richland Road and 7 miles north of Springfield, Missouri. The crash occurred as John Thaemlitz slowed to make a right turn when Joshua Ummel collided with the rear-end of his motorcycle. As a result from the collision, both men were ejected from their motorcycles.

John Thaemlitz received serious injuries and was air-lifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Joshua Ummel also received serious injuries and was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joshua Ummel was not wearing proper safety equipment while operating his motorcycle.

Joshua Ummel’s 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle received extensive damages and John Thaemlitz’s 2000 Confederate motorcycle was undamaged in the collision. Both motorcycles were towed by All Night Towing of Springfield, Missouri.

This motorcycle crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D.
