Motorcycle Crash Kills Peculiar Resident in Early Morning

When one motorcyclist lost control while driving on 235th street, the motorcycle overturned ejecting both occupants, which killed the passenger.

On July 26, 2012 at approximately 12:20 A.M., 22-year-old James Mowell from Peculiar, Missouri was heading west on 235th street 1/10 of a mile west of South Crest in Cass County while operating a 2009 Honda motorcycle. Mowell had one passenger – Sean Middleton, age 23, from Peculiar, Missouri.

The crash occurred when Mowell lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle overturned, slid off the left side of the roadway, and crashed into a ditch ejecting both occupants.

Middleton was transported from the scene of the crash to Belton Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Cecil Cook. Mowell suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Research Main by Peculiar EMS.

Mowell’s motorycle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Eckert Tow.

This investigation was led by Corporal T. G. Sims and assisted by Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
