Motorcycle Fatality in Andrew County

In Andrew County, a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed later crashes and dies after hecollided with another vehicle.

On September 2, 2012 at approximately 11:23 p.m., Brandin Hatheway, age 24 and of Savannah, Missouri was operating a 2002 Honda motorcycle and traveling in the southbound direction. Sarah Robinson, age 35 and of Savannah, Missouri was operating a 2009 Ford Escape and traveling in the westbound direction. Dustin (32), Abigail (5), and Andrew (1) were all passengers in Sarah Robinson’s vehicle during the time of the crash.

At that said time and place, Brandin Hatheway was traveling southbound while Sarah Robinson was traveling in the westbound direction on Business 71 at County Road 445, 1.5 miles south of Savannah. The fatality crash occurred as Brandin Hatheway crested the hill and began to skid into Sarah’s vehicle. The front of Brandin’s motorcycle collided with the rear passenger side of Sarah’s vehicle. Sarah’s vehicle spun clockwise and came to a rest facing east on County Road 445. Brandin was ejected off the east side of the motorcycle in the roadway coming to rest on the shoulder.

Brandin Hatheway was pronounced fatal at the scene of the crash by Andrew County coroner, Ron Crouse, and was taken to Gladden Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sarah Robinson was uninjured and did not seek medical attention. Passengers, Dustin, Abigail, and Andrew all received minor injuries from the crash and were taken by a private vehicle to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.

All participants involved in this motorcycle collision were reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol to be wearing their seat belts during the time of the crash.

Brandin Hatheway’s 2002 Honda motorcycle and Sarah Robinson’s 2009 Ford Escape both received total damages from the motorcycle crash. Brandin’s motorcycle was towed by L & M of Savannah Towing and Sarah’s vehicle was towed by Savannah Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop H, Andrew County, Savannah Police Department, and Andrew County EMS. This is troop H’s 24th fatality for 2012.
