Motorcycle Fatality in Jackson County


In Jackson County, a Kearney man was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a tree.

On January 13, 2014 at approximately 12:15 a.m., Joseph Loyd, age 54 of Kearney, Missouri was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson.

At that said date and time, Joseph was traveling in the westbound direction on U.S. Highway 24 and .4 miles east of North Holly Road. The crash occurred as Joseph failed to negotiate a curve, causing his motorcycle to travel off the right side of the road and collide into a tree. Joseph was ejected from the motorcycle.

Joseph Loyd was pronounced dead by paramedic, Jayson Bodine, with Fort Osage Fire District and then transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joseph was not wearing safety equipment while operating his motorcycle.

Joseph’s 2000 Harley Davidson received total damages and was towed by Impact Tow.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A. This is Troop A’s 1st fatality crash and 1st fatality for 2014.
