Four people were injured, two seriously, in a three vehicle car crash in Phelps County.
At approximately 5:50 pm on Wednesday evening, January 14th, a major traffic accident blocked traffic on Highway 63, while the victims were being cared for.
The accident occurred when a 2007 Ford Fusion driven by Nikole L. Baumgartner, 26, of Rolla, was traveling southbound on the highway, 5 miles south of Rolla, crossed the center line and struck John A. Birdsong, 31, of Dixon, head on.
John A. Birdsong was driving northbound in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
Moments later, a northbound 2007 Saturn Ion driven by Paul D. Jordan, 56, of Rolla, struck the Ford, which was stopped in the road due, to the collision with the Toyota truck.
Baumgartner suffered serious injuries and was transported by the Mercy LifeLine helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.
Birdsong also sustained serious injuries and was transported by Phelps County Ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
Caroline A. Loughridge, 24, of St. James, a passenger in Birdsong’s vehicle, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by a Air Evac helicopter to Mercy Hospital, in Creve Coeur.
Paul D. Jordan also suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Phelps County Ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
The patrol stated Jordan was wearing his seat belt, while Baumgartner, Birdsong and Loughridge were unbuckled.
