Woman sues Jefferson City after being seriously injured when she was hit at the intersection of Jackson and East Dunklin.

On February 6, 2013, Carol Ortbals was walking crossing Jackson westbound from a parking lot on the north side of East Dunklin Street on her way to her job at the state Employment Security Division building when she was hit by a vehicle. As a result, she suffered a traumatic brain injury which put her in a coma for 14 days. She also suffered other lifelong debilitating injuries.

The city has received numerous complaints about the intersection for the last ten years due to the high volume of collisions. The lawsuit claims that the city has a responsibility to fix intersections that present problems or reasonably foreseeable dangers but has refused to address the issue.
