Pedestrian Hit When Driver Falls Asleep

When one driver fell asleep on M123 in Polk County, she traveled off the roadway and crashed into a pedestrian, who suffered serious injuries and was air-lifted to a hospital as a result.

On July 28, 2012 at approximately 1:45 P.M., 41-year-old Ilene Mathiesen from Weaubleau, Missouri was heading south on M123 two miles north of Dunnegan in Polk County while operating a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis. At said time and place, Andy Mast, age 33, was walking along the side of the roadway.

The crash occurred when Mathiesen fell asleep and traveled off the roadway. She crashed into Mast, a fence, and a tree.

Mast suffered serious injuries and was air-lifted from the scene of the crash to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. It was not reported that Mathiesen suffered injuries as a result of this crash.

Mathiesen’s vehicle received moderate damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Buckner’s Wrecker Service of Weaubleau, Missouri.

This crash was investigated by Trooper David H. Brown of Troop D in Polk County.
