Pedestrian Killed On I-35


In Clay County, a two-vehicle crash involves the death of a Jamesport pedestrian and minor injury for the driver.

On July 17, 2013 at approximately 4:20 p.m., Brandon Hurd, age 22 of Polo, Missouri was operating a 1990 Honda. The second vehicle involved in the crash was a 2004 Chevrolet, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol the vehicle was unoccupied.

At that said date and time, Daniel Hurd was traveling in the northbound direction on I-35 and just north of the 31.8 mile marker and the 2004 Chevrolet was parked, facing northbound. The fatality occurred when Brandon Hurd traveled off the roadway, collided with the 2004 Chevrolet and into pedestrian, Daniel Gingerich, age 21 of Jamesport, Missouri.

Daniel Gingerich was seriously injured and transported to Liberty Hospital in critical condition. Later, Dr. Megan Despain pronounced Daniel dead as a result of his injuries. Brandon Hurd received minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash.

Brandon Hurd’s 1990 Honda received total damages and was towed by Interstate Tow. The 2004 Chevrolet also received total damages and was towed by Liberty Tow.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A and Clay County Deputies. This is Troop A’s 29th fatality and 24th fatality crash.
