Serious Injuries in Cass County Crash


In Cass County, three people are seriously injured after the at-fault driver collided with a parked car causing the vehicle to overturn several times.

On November 30, 2013 at approximately 2:40 p.m., Jaymes Howell, age 25 of Kansas City, Missouri was operating a 2006 Chevrolet. Linda Cockrum, age 71 of Springfield, Missouri was operating a 2003 Buick along with husband, Richard, age 82.

At that said date and time, Jaymes Howell and Linda Cockrum were facing in the southbound direction on Missouri Highway 7 and .1 miles north of Garden City. The crash occurred as Jaymes drove onto the shoulder of Missouri Highway 7 and collided with Linda’s parked car. The impact from the collision caused Linda’s car to overturn several times, finally coming to a rest in the median. Jaymes’ vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and came to a rest.

Linda Cockrum received serious injuries and was transported by Garden City ambulance to Research Hospital. Richard Cockrum also received serious injuries and was transported by Central Cass ambulance to Research Hospital. Jaymes Howell was transported by LifeFlight Eagle to Centerpoint Hospital with serious injuries.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Linda and Richard Cockrum were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision. The report also indicates that Jaymes Howell was not wearing his seat belt.

Jaymes Howell’s 2006 Chevrolet received total damages and was towed by GT Towing. Linda Cockrum’s 2003 Buick received total damages and was towed by Johnson’s Tow.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A.
