Seymour Man Wrongfully Killed in Head-on Collision


In Webster County, a head-on collision crash wrongfully kills a Seymour man after the at-fault driving was traveling in the lanes of oncoming traffic.

On October 25, 2013 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Chad Bybee, age 32 of Rogersville, Missouri was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado along with his daughters Adaline, age 6, and Gabrielle, age 8. William Hughes, age 84 of Seymour, Missouri was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Impala.

At that said date and time, Chad Bybee was traveling in the westbound direction as William Hughes was traveling in the eastbound direction on US Highway 60 in Rogersville and east of Route VV. The crash occurred as Chad was traveling in the westbound direction in the eastbound lane of US 60 and collided with William’s vehicle head-on.

William Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Webster County Deputy Coroner, Robby Jernigan, and then transported to Preston Marsh Funeral Home of Rogersville. Adaline Bybee received moderate injuries and Gabrielle Bybee received serious injuries in the collision. Both Adaline and Gabrielle were transported by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Chad Bybee did not seek any medical attention and was reported as uninjured.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, William Hughes, Adaline and Gabrielle Bybee were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, however Chad Bybee was not wearing his seat belt.

William Hughes’ 2009 Chevrolet Impala and Chad Bybee’s 2003 Chevrolet Silverado both received total damages and were towed by Yates Brothers Towing of Seymour.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 96th fatality for 2013.
