Missouri driver fails to yield when merging onto I-70, colliding with another vehicle and causing both vehicles to strike the concrete barrier.
On August 25, 2012 at approximately 4:25p.m., 42 year old Reginald Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling eastbound on I-70 at Lucas and Hunt. Johnson’s vehicle was occupied by himself and one passenger, 27 year old Olajuwon Jones also of St. Louis, Missouri.
At that said time and place, 40 year old Andrew Brown of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling eastbound attempting to merge onto I-70. Brown failed to yield to the oncoming traffic and struck Johnson and Jones, causing both vehicles to strike the concrete barrier on the highway. The at-fault driver, Brown, was then struck by a third vehicle driven by 51 year old Barbara Jackson of St. Ann, Missouri.
Driver Reginald Johnson was transported from the scene of the crash by North East Ambulance to Barnes Jewish Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Passenger Olajuwon Jones was also transported by North East Ambulance to Barnes Jewish Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries sustained in the crash. All parties involved were wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash.
Johnson’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Eddie’s Towing. The at-fault vehicle also sustained extensive damage in the crash and was towed from the scene by Eddie’s Towing. The third vehicle involved, driven by Barbara Jackson, sustained only minor damage and was driven from the scene of the crash. It is unknown whether Johnson possessed insurance coverage at the time of the crash; however, both other drivers did possess insurance coverage for their vehicles.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper J.J. Moll of Troop C.
