Target Shooting Kills Child


In Christian County, a 4-year-old girl was shot and killed by a man target shooting.

On October 28, 2013 around 3:00 p.m., Christian County deputies were called to the home of Zoie Dougan on account of a bullet injury to her head.

According to Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle, Zoie was a visiting with parents while the 24-year-old man who lived in the house was outside target shooting with a .22-caliber rifle. A statement released from reports that Joey Kyle stated, “the position he was shooting from – his vision was blocked to his right, and the visiting 4-year-old walked into the path of fire and he shot her in the head.”

En route to a Springfield hospital, 4-year-old Zoie Dougan was pronounced dead by Christian County Coroner Brad Cole.

The man who shot Zoie Dougan was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unpaid traffic ticket in Webster County. Later, he was transported to the Christian County Jail in Ozark and is being held there as deputies investigate the shooting. The investigation will be presented to prosector, Amy Fite, and she’ll make a decision as to whether or not there will be charges filed.

No charges have been filed against the man regarding the shooting and his name has not been released.
