Teenager Killed in Tree Collision


In Randolph County, a Higbee, Missouri teenager is killed after the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree.

On June 18, 2013 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Dakota Redifer, age 19 of Higbee, Missouri was operating a 2001 Ford Taurus along with passengers Dylen Gordon, age 19, and Kayla Cooke, age 19.

At that said date and time, Dakota was traveling in the westbound direction on County Road 2560 600 East. The crash occurred as Dakota failed to negotiate a curve correctly and traveled off the right side of the road. The vehicle then crashed into a tree and overturned.

Kayla Cooke was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Randolph County coroner, Luntsford, and then taken to Million-Taylor Funeral Home. Dakota was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital. Dylen Gordon received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dylen was the only person wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Dakota Redifer’s 2001 Ford Taurus received total damages and was towed by Prather’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop B and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department. This is Troop B’s 5th fatality for 2013.
